Begin your journey along Auckland's waterfront, following the curve of the Waitematā Harbour towards Bastion Point, where panoramic views stretch across the city skyline and the Hauraki Gulf. Continue to Mission Bay, one of Auckland's favourite seaside suburbs, with sweeping views across to Rangitoto Island and the volcanic coastline beyond. From there, explore the Auckland Domain and historic Winter Gardens before continuing to the summit of Mount Eden (Maungawhau), Auckland's highest volcanic cone, for spectacular 360° views across the region and a close look into its volcanic crater.

As you travel through the city, your guide will introduce Auckland's rich history, Māori heritage, volcanic origins and modern culture, passing many of its best-known landmarks. Around midday, enjoy one hour of free time in the city centre. Choose to relax over lunch at one of the many local cafés or restaurants, at your own expense, before continuing your journey west.

From there, arrive at the spectacular black sands of Piha Beach. Feel the volcanic sand beneath your feet, admire the crashing waves of the Tasman Sea and discover the stories behind Lion Rock and this extraordinary coastline. Rather than rushing from stop to stop, your private tour allows time to explore, take photographs and enjoy each location at a relaxed pace, with your guide sharing fascinating insights throughout the day. Travelling in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle with door-to-door service, Auckland Explorer is an immersive full-day experience connecting Auckland's vibrant city with its spectacular wild landscapes.

The journey then continues west into the magnificent Waitākere Ranges, where the landscape changes dramatically from urban waterfronts to ancient native rainforest. Stop at the Arataki Visitor Centre, the gateway to the ranges, for panoramic views across both of Auckland's harbours before continuing through winding rainforest roads to Karekare Falls, where a gentle bush walk leads to one of Auckland's beautiful waterfalls hidden amongst ancient native trees.

We loved our half day with Louise!

She took us to the west coast outside of Auckland and then to Mt. Eden on our way back downtown. We had plans to go to Piha beach but she suggested getting off the beaten path so we instead went to Karekare beach and Falls. We are so happy we did. They were both absolutely incredible! The waterfall was stunning - I could have stayed there for hours just enjoying the experience. And the beach was awe inspiring too, and we had it almost entirely to ourselves. So much better than being surrounded by tons of people at the more touristy Piha.

Louise’s knowledge about New Zealand and the Auckland area in particular is so impressive. She covered geology, New Zealand and Māori history, local plant and animal species, tons of information about modern living in the area, and lots of other topics. She just has such a vast memory for these facts. Everything she shared with us was interesting and she had answers to all the questions we had. Touring with her is so much more than just seeing beautiful sights, it is very informative as well.

Her car is a medium sized SUV. It was spotless and very comfortable for the 4 of us. Even with three in the back we didn’t feel cramped. She also provided us with some local snacks and tea which we didn’t expect. She really just goes above and beyond to make sure you are getting to whole experience of the area.
